Gina Carano: From Hero to Ben Shapiro
To begin this week’s program Jim and Teal weigh in on Gina Carano’s seemingly cancelled career. Is cancel culture a real thing? Is shifting one’s acting career to conservative bad-boy, Ben Shapiro a move anyone should take? Jim and Teal discuss.
Heaven’s Gate 2: Sia’s Music
Here is a film that probably should be cancelled. Jim calls Sia’s Music the worst movie he’s ever seen. That’s right, the worst movie he’s ever seen. Could this debut film from singer, turned director, Sia, truly be this awful? In a word, yes. Hear what Jim has to say about it.
Nomadland
Things on this episode take a more positive direction when Teal and Jim review and discuss director Chloe Zhao’s film, Nomadland. Teal and Jim both enjoyed Zhao’s last film, The Rider, and they have a lot to say about this new film which is making a lot of year-end awards notices. Frances McDormand stars in this film that almost feels like a documentary, but not quite. It’s a movie that will get you thinking, and that’s a good thing.
Possessor: Uncut!
If Possessor feels like a movie that could have only come from the imagination of director David Cronenberg, well you’re half right. It’s from the twisted imagination of his son, Brandon. Featuring a wild and interesting performance by Stuff We’ve Seen favorite, Andrea Riseborough, plus good performances by Christopher Abbott and Jennifer Jason Leigh, this disturbing Sci-Fi/horror mashup, is a worthy conversation extension of the legacy of David Cronenberg. But warning!! This is not a film for the feint of heart. It definitely earns it’s uncut rating, and even Jim and Teal found some of the film’s more extreme moments hard to take. But they toughed it out for you, the listener.
Judas and The Black Messiah
To end the episode Jim and Teal recommend Judas and The Black Messiah, now streaming on HBOMax. Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield turn in strong performances in this allegorical take on the assassination of Black Panther activist, Fred Hampton. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Enjoy this episode! It’s a long one, but you deserve the content. Happy listening.
